Chapter 1

The sun above the *HMS Destiny* didn't burn; it glowed with the steady, artificial hum of a high-end LED monitor. Barnaby leaned against a mast that felt suspiciously like recycled plastic, his thumbs blurred across the glass of his iPhone 15. The "Isekai Patch" had been generous—infinite battery, 5G coverage in the literal void, and a pre-installed messaging app labeled *Destiny*.
"Swab!" a voice boomed, sounding like gravel in a blender.
Barnaby didn't look up. He was busy typing: *lol this hat u gave the boss is mid. looks like a taco. send more rum?* He added a dancing pirate emoji and hit send. A small gray checkmark appeared.
"Barnaby! The Soul-Knot!"
Finally, Barnaby glanced over his shoulder. The Admiral was a terrifying sight—ten feet of shimmering, semi-translucent muscle with four arms, all of which were currently trembling with rage. He wore a tricorne hat so large it defied gravity, and his eyes were swirling galaxies of reprimand.
"Yeah, yeah, the knot. Keep your ruffles on, big guy," Barnaby said, waving a dismissive hand. "I’m waiting for the Captain to get back to me. We’re vibing."
"You are not 'vibing' with the Architect of Fate," the Admiral hissed, two of his hands pointing toward the bow. The ship sat upon a sea of shimmering blue pixels that lagged whenever the wind blew. At the edge of the deck, a heavy spectral rope frayed, its golden fibers snapping with the sound of static. "The Soul-Knot anchors this vessel to the Great Server. If the knot unbinds, we are purged. Tie it. Now."
Barnaby snorted, his eyes snapping back to the screen. "It’s a bit, Admiral. The whole 'destiny' thing? It’s a total bit. Look, I’ve been roasting the Captain’s choice of sea-shanties for twenty minutes. He’s totally reading these."
"He is not a 'he,' and he does not 'read,'" the Admiral roared, his third hand reaching for a cutlass made of pure code. "He is the system! The knot is the command! Tie it!"
Barnaby chuckled, his face illuminated by the blue light of the screen. *U there?* he typed. *Admiral is losing his pixels. Chill him out?* Suddenly, the gray checkmark on the screen turned a vibrant, glowing blue.
"Oh, snap!" Barnaby cheered, thrusting the phone toward the Admiral’s face. "He’s seen it! Left me on read! Classic power move. You see that? The Captain has a sense of humor."
The Admiral didn't laugh. He stopped moving entirely, his four arms dropping to his sides. He wasn't looking at the phone; he was looking at the sky.
The digital clouds parted. There was no thunder, only the sound of a massive system notification—a chime that vibrated through Barnaby’s very teeth. From the zenith of the heavens, a colossal, glowing blue checkmark, three hundred feet long and sharp as a guillotine, descended with terminal velocity. It wasn't a sign of friendship; it was a Read Receipt delivered with the weight of a collapsing star.
The blue checkmark slammed into the pixelated ocean a mile out, sending a tidal wave of corrupted data rushing toward the *HMS Destiny*.
"The knot," the Admiral whispered, his voice oddly calm now. "You didn't tie the command."
The golden rope at the bow finally snapped. The ship lurched, not downward, but *outward*. The neon colors of the deck began to grey. The sea turned into a flat, white expanse of "404 Not Found."
"Wait," Barnaby stammered, his thumbs finally freezing. "It was just a joke! I was just kidding around!"
He looked at his phone. A new message bubble appeared, but it wasn't from the Captain. It was a system alert in stark, red text: *Your subscription to Reality has expired. Account deleted for inactivity.*
"The Captain has concluded your narrative," the Admiral said, his body beginning to dissolve into flickering squares of light. "You chose the screen over the soul. Now, you drift."
The *HMS Destiny* vanished. Barnaby found himself falling through a silent, white void. There was no wind, no sound, only the dim glow of his screen. He tried to type a frantic apology, an SOS to the universe, but when he pressed send, a final pop-up blocked his view:
* Error: User has been blocked by Destiny.*
The screen went black. Then, so did Barnaby.
Would you like me to generate a cover image for "Blocked by Destiny" or perhaps brainstorm a sequel concept where Barnaby tries to "hack" his way back into existence?
