The Spirit Spring

Three days passed. They became experts at hiding Ren. When the maid came to clean, Ren hid under the bed. When Sera went to class, Ren stood right outside the window, cloaked in invisibility talismans he had "borrowed" from the archives.
But the System was demanding. The distance limit was shrinking. It was now five meters. And the quests were getting... intimate.
**[Major Quest: Yin-Yang Harmony.]**
**[Objective: Skin-to-skin Qi circulation in a high-density spirit source.]**
**[Location: The Forbidden Spirit Spring.]**
Sera stared at the screen. "Forbidden Spirit Spring? That’s behind the Headmaster’s peak. It’s restricted."
"And 'skin-to-skin' implies naked," Ren noted, reading over her shoulder. "Scandalous."
"We are not getting naked," Sera squeaked.
"Backless robes," Ren suggested pragmatically. "We just need contact along the spine. That’s where the meridians align."
That night, they snuck out to the grotto behind the mountain. The spring was a natural pool of glowing blue water, hidden by heavy mists and ferns.
The air was thick with steam. Sera turned her back to Ren.
"Don't look," she ordered, her voice trembling.
"I'm not looking," Ren promised.
Sera untied her sash. She lowered her robe to her waist, clutching the silk to her chest. The cool night air hit her bare back. She waded into the warm water, sitting on a submerged stone bench.
A moment later, she heard the rustle of fabric. Ren waded in.
"Ready?" he asked. His voice was close.
"Yes."
Ren sat behind her. He lowered himself until his back pressed against hers.
His skin was burning hot—pure Yang fire. Sera gasped. The contact was shocking.
**[Harmonic Link Active. Circulating...]**
Energy rushed between them. It wasn't just Qi. It was emotion.
Sera felt Ren’s mind. She felt his loneliness—a different kind than hers. He was lonely because everyone saw him as a failure, a thug. He hid his brilliance because he didn't want to be used by the sect.
And Ren felt her. He felt the crushing weight of the golden roof she lived under. The fear of her father. The constant, suffocating need to be perfect.
"Sera," Ren whispered. He didn't move away. He leaned his head back, resting it against the back of her head. "You're drowning in there, aren't you?"
Sera closed her eyes, tears mixing with the steam. "If I stop swimming, I don't know who I am."
Ren’s hand found hers under the water. He interlaced their fingers.
"You're the girl who likes spicy pork buns," he said softly. "You're the girl who keeps her socks alphabetized. You're... you."
The Qi cycled faster, spiraling into a golden vortex around them. It wasn't the cold, rigid power of the Academy. It was fluid. It was alive.
Sera squeezed his hand. For the first time, she didn't want to be the Sect Leader's daughter. She just wanted to stay here, in the warm water, anchored by the boy who felt like fire.
