The Founders' Seal

The evolution hit them like a lightning bolt.
The blue screens vanished, replaced by gold. A flood of memories that weren't theirs crashed into their minds.
They saw the Academy a thousand years ago. They saw a woman in white and a man in black. The Founders. They were lovers. They had created the System—the **Harmonic Seal**—to protect the Academy’s ley lines from corruption.
Sera gasped, pulling away from Ren. They turned to face each other in the water.
"Did you see that?" Ren asked, his eyes wide.
"The Founders," Sera breathed. "We... we are them. Or their chosen vessels."

**[Current Sect Leader is draining the Ley Lines. The Academy is dying.]**
Sera froze. "My father?"
**[Affirmative. The 'Perfect Vessel' project is designed to harvest the Host's Yin energy to stabilize the Sect Leader's consumption.]**
Sera felt the blood drain from her face. Her perfection. Her father’s obsession with her cultivation. It wasn't love. It wasn't pride.
He was fattening her up for slaughter.
"No," she whispered. "That can't be true."
"Sera," Ren said urgently, reaching for her. "Think about it. Why does he pressure you? Why are you never allowed to leave the mountain?"
Before she could answer, the mists parted.
"Touching scene," a cold voice echoed.
Sera froze. Standing at the edge of the spring, silhouetted by the moonlight, was Sect Leader Lin. He held a black jade artifact in his hand.
"Father," Sera stammered, scrambling to cover herself.
"I sensed a disturbance in the ley lines," Lin said, his eyes devoid of warmth. He looked at Ren with pure disgust. "And I find my daughter bathing with a rat."
"He knows," Ren shouted, stepping in front of Sera to shield her. "We know what you're doing to the Academy! To her!"
Lin sneered. "You know nothing, boy."
He raised the black jade. It pulsed with a dark light.

Pain.
It felt like being ripped in half. Sera screamed as the golden tether between her and Ren shattered.
"No!" Ren lunged for the Sect Leader.
Lin flicked his wrist. A blast of wind threw Ren backward, slamming him into the rock wall. He crumpled, unconscious.
"Ren!" Sera shrieked.
"Take him to the Abyss Prison," Lin commanded the shadows. Guards materialized, dragging Ren away.
Lin turned to Sera. "You have ripened nicely, Seraphina. It seems the rogue accelerated your Yin development. Perhaps he was useful after all."
He grabbed her arm. "Come. The Ascendance Ritual is tomorrow. We cannot delay."
